GP&L Updates Regarding COVID-19:

  • The City of Garland Utility Customer Service Department continues to work with customers who have fallen behind on their utility bills. Please be aware that termination notices have resumed and disconnects will begin the week of June 15. To avoid disruption of service, please contact Customer Service at 972-205-2671 or Please include your service address and account number in any correspondence. You can help your neighbors with their utility bills by contributing to Provide Aid in Dollars (PAID).
  • The Duckworth Utility Services Building is closed until further notice. In-person payments can be made at the Utility Payment Drive-Thru (717 W. State St.) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Other utility payment options are also available.
  • Social distancing keeps customers and GP&L employees safe.

Transmission Line Project Begins Nov. 25

TMPA Transmission LineConstruction on a transmission power line running from north to south Garland begins on Nov. 25 and is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2020. Texas Municipal Power Agency (TMPA) owns the line, which is being upgraded to support reliability of the Texas electric grid.

Work on the transmission line begins at Ben Davis Substation north of Firewheel Town Center and proceeds south, generally running along Highway 78, except in the Downtown area where it follows the railroad line. Daytime lane closures will be limited to one lane from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. along Highway 78. Short nighttime lane closures will be needed for the crossings of Highway 78, President George Bush Turnpike and Avenue B.
