GP&L Updates Regarding COVID-19:

-The City of Garland is working with customers during these difficult times. Although Customer Service is not currently disconnecting for non-payment, we anticipate resuming collection related activities on or about June 15. We strongly encourage customers to contact Utility Customer Service at 972-205-2671 or to discuss their situation. Please include your service address and account number in any correspondence. 

-The Duckworth Utility Services Building is closed until further notice. In-person payments can be made at the Utility Payment Drive-Thru (717 W. State St.) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Other utility payment options are also available.

-Social distancing keeps customers and GP&L employees safe.

Tree Power Free Tree Giveaway Recognized by Garland Mayor

Canon-Canon EOS 70D-5472x3648-000177Garland Power & Light and the Garland Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department were honored at the Dec. 4 City Council Meeting for a decade of providing free trees to residents through the Tree Power Free Tree Giveaway. Garland Mayor Lori Barnett Dodson presented a special recognition, which praised the program for its contribution to beautifying the city, lowering energy consumption, and creating a healthier environment. 

The Tree Giveaway is held annually at the Haskell L. Roach Garden Center on the first Saturday in November, the day after Texas Arbor Day. Since it began in 2008, the program has distributed a total of 5,000 trees to be planted in Garland. The 4- to 6-foot trees, mostly long-living oak varieties, 

The Tree Giveaway was selected by the Citizens Environmental & Neighborhood Advisory Committee for the recognition, which noted many of the benefits trees provide to a community, including shade, insulation from noise pollution and a habitat for wildlife. GP&L Electric Communications Manager Elizabeth Kimbrough, GP&L Vegetation Manager Grant Winans and Garland Parks Director Barry Swisher accepted the recognition for their departments.
